AND SO I WATCH YOU FROM AFAR - NI And So I Watch You From Afar were born from freezing cold winters on the northern most tip of Ireland. They play raw, charging, experimental music that is hard to define. Sometimes angular and noisy, sometimes pulsing, euphoric, overwhelming. The joy, the power, the escapism found in their live shows is fabled. In 2006 they jumped in the van and didn’t stop. Across Europe, USA, Russia, Asia, Central America, Australia, touring relentlessly, they’ve slowly built a cult following around the world. Their albums are uncompromising and exploratory. The true spirit of independence, the definition of DIY, of realness and resolve.

SCALER - UK Bristol has been a hotbed for musical talent for years now, and the latest must-see act to emerge from the city is SCALER. Formerly known as Scalping, this four-piece are great on record, but positively effervescent when performing live. So, it is with great pleasure that we can now announce that they’ll be joining us at Roadburn 2024; taking to the main stage and no doubt dominating with their hefty blend of electronic and guitar-driven music. The band state that the question that guides their creativity is “how can a band bridge the gap between live guitar music and live electronic music?”. They present their various answers in their compelling explorations through heaviness that take twists and turns through uncharted territory. Their curiosity around merging genres and influences, unhindered by external expectations of heaviness resonates with us; after all it’s an adventure we’ve been on as a festival for years now. They tell us: “We’ve been keen admirers of Roadburn for the last few years; their lineups always pushing the definitions of heavy experimental music, and we’re thrilled to be playing this year alongside some genuine heroes.”

ROBOCORA QUARTET - NI Improvisation and experimentation is at the core of Robocobra Quartet's DNA, whether it be in the fluidity of their line-up (six musicians tagging in and out to make up the live touring quartet) or in their unique self-produced records which flirt with the likes of choral groups and string sections - almost intentionally at odds with their ostensible roots as a post-punk band. These juxtapositions are just the beginning of the complex world of Robocobra Quartet - a band serious about their music but humorous in their approach; a band consisting of members with no musical training alongside members with backgrounds in music tuition and with European music conservatoire pedigree. The result is a group of musicians inspired by Stravinsky and Black Flag in equal measures.
