Bridget is alone again, a widow since four years ago, when Mark was killed during a humanitarian mission in Sudan. Now a single mother to 9-year-old Billy and 4-year-old Mabel, she is stuck in an emotional limbo. Pushed by her urban family—Shazzer, Jude, and Tom, her co-worker Miranda, her mother, and her gynecologist Dr. Rawlings—to embark on a new path toward life and love, Bridget returns to work and even tries dating apps , through which she soon gains a dreamy and enthusiastic young admirer. While trying to balance work, home life and romance, Bridget must deal with condemnation from the perfect mothers at school and worry about Billy who is struggling with his father's absence. In addition, she finds herself in a series of tricky interactions with her son's over-rational science teacher.
