An explosive and visual performance show with poetry, dance, and battles scrutinizes norms and taboos with twin sisters Jamila and Amina. A housewife and a career woman should be considered equally strong and important - but who is doing it right according to society? Maybe both? But probably none. On stage, they represent yin and yang - two primordial forces that both balance and fight each other. Two souls in one body, and two bodies with one mind.
Through Visual Vernacular, a visual storytelling that uses gestures and facial expressions, the show is accessible to everyone. Power leaves the audience - deaf and hearing - with many thoughts and reflections.
Jamila and Amina Ouahid are world-renowned within the deaf community for their special and strong expression. The script is written by Maja Lidbrink, who previously wrote Hem, a play about deaf refugees during the refugee crisis in 2015. Hem toured with Riksteatern in 2019 and Amina was one of the actors in that production. Mindy Drapsa, artistic director of Riksteatern Crea who also directed Hem, is the director of Power.
Performed in international sign with newly written music and visual stage solutions that enhance the storytelling so that even non-sign language users can understand and enjoy the show.
Duration: 55 minutes
