Join us for the release party of Elusive Shimmer, the debut album by Swedish composer Erik Klinga. Known for his work with bands like Simian Ghost and Solen, Klinga now delves into electroacoustic territories, blending modular synthesis, field recordings, and acoustic sources to craft textured compositions that drift between ambient and rhythmic structures. Polish composer Aleksandra Słyż will also perform, bringing her intricate microtonal drones and electroacoustic textures.
ERIK KLINGA The Swedish composer is known for his work with bands like Simian Ghost and Solen and now explores the realms of electroacoustic music. With a background in percussion, he brings a rhythmic sensibility to his solo work, combining modular synthesis (primarily the Buchla format) with field recordings and acoustic sources to create layered compositions. His music, moving between ambient and rhythmically driven structures, is rooted in a curiosity for timbre, harmony, and melody within repetitive forms.
Elusive Shimmer, his debut on the Thanatosis label, is the first album in an ambitious trilogy. Drawing on the celestial tones of the Buchla 200 synthesizer, delicate field recordings, and pipe organ, Klinga has produced eight pieces that shimmer with melodic poignance. Tracks such as "Iridescence" reveal his unique sense of tonal balance – between grounded rhythms and ethereal swells – evoking a sensation akin to being bathed in light. His compositions reflect on visual phenomena, where sound refracts like light, shifting between shadow and illumination.
Live performances at venues like Norberg Festival and Malmö Konstmuseum have showcased Klinga’s talent for reinterpreting his studio work in immersive settings, often incorporating historic organ sounds to enhance his Buchla textures. His upcoming tour includes stops across Europe, where he will continue to reimagine Elusive Shimmer for live audiences, inviting listeners into a sonic landscape of unfolding light and sound. This debut marks a luminous start to a series that promises to further refine his unique voice within the electronic and experimental music scenes. https://erikklinga.bandcamp.com https://www.instagram.com/erikklinga
ALEKSANDRA SŁYŻ The Polish composer, musician, and sound engineer’s work bridges acoustic and synthetic realms. With degrees from the University of A. Mickiewicz, Poznań Academy of Music, and Stockholm’s Royal College of Music, Słyż crafts immersive soundscapes rooted in natural tuning systems. Her compositions focus on microtonal textures and rich drone structures that explore electroacoustic tensions.
A pioneer in interactive sonification systems, Słyż conducted extensive research from 2017 to 2022, examining movement sonification and the power of sound in various forms of interaction. Her works have been showcased at top festivals and venues, including Rewire, CTM, Unsound, Fiber Festival, and Warsaw Autumn, as well as prestigious spaces like The Royal Concertgebouw, Fylkingen, and Kunsthal Gent. Słyż’s compositions invite listeners into intricate sonic landscapes where organic and electronic elements resonate in harmony, revealing the depth and subtlety of her experimental practice. https://slyzaleksandra.bandcamp.com/ https://www.instagram.com/aleksandra.slyz/
